Showcase Feature

Penny, long the head propagator of California native plants for sale at the U.C. Botanical Garden, had wanted a beautiful native plant garden for some time—and, with design help and installation from Blackwell and Lloyd, now she has one.  This small, charming garden, with its attractive stone path and brick border, contains a delectable mixture of plants—including bright penstemon and alum-roots, delicate sedums and leopard lilies, and a visually pleasing potpourri of bunchgrasses, buckwheats, and bee plant. Penny grew many of the plants in her garden from seed, and she reports that it is “thrilling” to have the plants she has been tending at the nursery right outside her front door.

Other Garden Attractions dewind-4

  • Persistent weeds are overcome with…persistent weeding. (Yes, even the field of oxalis that had previously overrun the front yard!)

Gardening for Wildlife dewind-13

Hummingbirds sip nectar from the native fuchsia.  Bees are attracted to the bee plant (of course!), and the phacelia and sage. Butterflies adore the giant landing pads (aka flowers) of the buckwheats.
