Showcase Feature
Got a small space? Wondering what you can do with it? If so, come and check out Karen and Ted’s diminutive lawn-to-garden project. Inspired by neighbor Cindy Angers, (whose garden was on the Tour last year), and wanting something more interesting than turf, Karen and Ted’s lawn was first sheetmulched, and then transformed into a colorful, water-conserving garden that contains plants that will attract bees, butterflies, and birds. This garden was designed by Cindy Angers of Ecofolia Design.
Other Garden Attractions
• Moss rock boulders provide both visual interest, and places for lizards to bask on and hide under.
• Weeds are hand-pulled; no pesticides are used in this—or any!—Tour garden.
• Karen hand waters this small space about once every two weeks.
• Saunter across the street to Teri Henson’s garden.
Gardening for Wildlife
The lavender-purple lilac verbena ‘De la Mina” and bright yellow sulphur buckwheat attract butterflies. California fuchsia and penstemon draw hummingbirds, and add richness to the color palette.
