Ploughshares offers a diverse selection of native plants aimed at the home gardener, the ethno-gardener, the habitat gardener and those interested in bio-region specific planting.  All proceeds of sales are used to maintain housing for formerly homeless families and individuals. Ploughshares Nursery is a non-profit social enterprise of Alameda Point Collaborative.

Ploughshares’ wild and woolly demonstration garden shows off large specimens of flannel bush, California lilac, coffeeberry, toyon and white sage.  Beds of native strawberry, giant coreopsis, and penstemon are all about the place.

Ploughshares’ demonstration garden shows how easy it is to merge edibles, permaculture and native plant gardening styles into a single whole.

Check out Ploughshares’ diverse and interesting selection of natives, including succulents such as Dudleya ‘Frank Reinalt,’ with its attractive gray leaves and tiny yellow flowers, and the beautiful Romney coulteri ‘Matilija Poppy’, with its huge ‘fried egg’ blooms.

Hummingbird lovers will enjoy Salvia spathacea ‘Hummingbird Sage’ and the lovely penstemon Penstemon heterophyllus with its purple tubular flowers.

Butterfly enthusiasts appreciate Ploughshares’ selection of verbena, including Verbena lilacina ‘De La Mina’ and several different milkweeds.

For sunny gardens, Ploughshares has manzanita and California lilac for use as ground covers as well as tall feature plants.
