Philosophy

If you would like to integrate local natives into your landscaping, come to the Native Here Nursery, where all the plants are native to Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Stroll through the nursery and get a sense of the grasses, shrubs, and trees that grow here.  Check out the many older specimens on display.

The plants are situated according to locales, so you can find the ones that grow in your area. Inland plants (Briones, Orinda, Lafayette, Mt Diablo, Brentwood and Livermore, etc) are located in the sunnier parts of the nursery.  Bayside plants (Wildcat, Oakland, Berkeley, Chabot, Redwood Regional Park, El Sobrante etc.) are located in part sun and shade.  Crockett, Martinez, Richmond, and Delta plants are located together.

There are over 15,000 plants for sale.  The inventory is always changing, so come throughout the year to see what’s new. You will find plants that are not available at any other nursery!  Contract sales can be arranged.

Volunteers will help you select plants for your garden or  restoration project.  Peruse our collection of reference books.

Directions

Native Here is in the Berkeley hills just north of Hwy. 24. From Hwy 24 heading west take the Fish Ranch Road exit east of the Caldecott Tunnel, drive uphill, and turn right at Grizzly Peak Blvd. Turn east at Golf Course Drive by the sign to the Tilden Park golf course, and go a half mile down, then turn left to enter the parking area.  From Berkeley, turn east at Shasta Road to enter the East Bay Regional Park. Turn right at Golf Course Drive (at the corner of the golf course). Continue about .5 miles. Turn right at the Golf Course sign and continue about a mile. Look for the wooden sign for the nursery on your right. (Native Here now accepts credit and debit cards.)
